Our spring weather did not cooperate this year so we were unable to go to the Historic school. As an alternative we stayed at CIS and had a day in the past in our own classrooms. Though we didn't have a blackboard or old fashioned desks we still pretended to be back in 1888. We used slates for orthography (spelling) practice and math, quills and ink for penmanship, and McGuffy Readers for reading. We packed our lunches in handkerchiefs, and played games from the 1880's. Even though it wasn't quite as good as going out to the real old schoolhouse, it was the next best thing!
