Halloween

Monday we celebrated Halloween in our classrooms by playing games, reading stories, and art activities.  Then we paraded up to Crest View and then returned for our treats.  What a fun day,

Fall Art

This fall we had fun making beautiful fall leaves and pumpkins from a roll of toilet paper.  We love art!

Late September we traveled to Chadron State park to watch birds being banded.  Staff from the Bird Observatory showed us how they catch birds in nets and then band then to track their migratory patterns.  We also played a few games pretending to migrate as birds.  We found there are lots of pitfalls birds encounter on their trip.  It was a great opportunity to learn about birds.

Carving apples

Mrs. Hoffman brought us some apples which we used to carve to make apple people.  We used a sharpened dowel to carve the facial features and add "googly" eyes.  We then put the apple on the dowel and we are letting them dry out.  By Halloween they should make some interesting creature heads for us to use to make witches or other ghouls.

States of matter

We have started a new and exciting school year!  Once again I have a class of awesome third graders!
In science, we start out the year studying states of matter.  We made "ooblick" in class and experimented with it to determine if it is a solid, liquid, or gas.  We know it's not a gas so we tried to decide if it was a solid or liquid.  It had properties of both so we couldn't decide.
